Immersion Research Papers
Papers that have been found that deal with immersion.
A motivational model of video game engagement - This paper looks into the the main motivations that go into playing games, as well as the potential psychological impacts that could effect the player especially after post play.
Effects of immersion in virtual reality on postural control
Engagement in digital entertainment game: A systematic view - This paper is a review of previous literature that looks into the main motivational factors that go in the engaging a player. The paper looks into a wide range of factors the go in to player engagement.
The development of the game engagement questionnaire: A measure of engagement in video game-playing - This paper details the creation of a questionnaire that would be used to accurately determining the level of psychological engagement that a player is having with a video game.
Virtual reality: How much immersion is enough? - This paper look at the question of how much immersing a player can help in a VR environment, as well as the potential costs to the experience that including immersive elements could have.

Haptic Feedback Research Papers
Papers that have been found that deal with haptic feedback.
Abusing the player and making them like it too - While only an abstract, the paper discuses changeling assumptions surrounding the idea of disrespecting the player though physical or physiological means.
Dead fun: Uncomfortable interactions in a virtual reality game for coffins - This paper deal with the analyse and feedback of a VR game idea that is centred around placing player with a confined space to simulate the feeling of being in a coffin.
Haptic feedback in pervasive games - This paper deals with the issues that are presented with haptic feedback. it mainly discuses the issues of augmenting user feedback such as sound and enhanced haptic feedback to simulate hitting a ball with a virtual bat.
Playing through the future of alternative and critical game projects
Shocking grasps: An archaeology of electrotactile game mechanics - This paper looks in the 250 year history of using electric shocks as game feed back that lead up to the creation of the PainStation.
Towards using the full human potential in games and virtual environments

The Start of the Research
The aim of this research is to ask one key question that has arise in my mind from the discussions in the area of VR gaming that i have had with my peers. The question which I have decided to pursue an answer towards is "Does creating a more immersive experience though the use of VR tech and more advanced haptic and simulated pain feedback cause a detriment effect on the user experience?"
The main inspiration for this question comes from a phenomena that is found within the realms of robotics and video game graphics. This being "The Uncanny Valley".
The reason that this phenomena forms that backbone of the research is the potential similarity between the question being ask, and the overall nature that is presented by "The Uncanny Valley". This similarity being the nature of trying to pursue a more realistic experience.
Some of the key area that will be look at though this research
